9:45 Activities Begin! See descriptions below. Some activities take place in the synagogue, and some will be at other community organizations (after the 9:15 kick-off). Please note: some activities will require minimal supplies be brought by participants.
Link to RegisterThis is not a day off from Religious School, but a day where school includes the wider Shir Hadash community and families and friends to offer and learn from a hands-on program.We encourage families to choose one activity to do together. We also encourage extended families and friends who may not be members to participate as well. The cost of the program is $18 for each immediate family (for example, if grandparents are also attending, please register for two families for a total of $36).Browse through the descriptions and simply RSVP by Monday, April 7 via this link:

Our EnvironmentWhere: The Grove, 1421 Milwaukee Ave, GlenviewWhat we can do to help: Possibly some brush-cutting, raking of burned areas in order plant wildflower seeds and possibly put in some new trees. If we get a large group of people we can divide in small groups and rotate.2. The SickWhere: Shir HadashWhen: 9:45-11:30What we can do to help: Make fleece blankets (only cutting and tying skills required) to be provided to children in local hospitals3. AnimalsWhere: starting at Shir Hadash and also going to Orphans of the Storm in RiverwoodsWhat we can do to help: Bake dog biscuits in the Shir Hadash kitchen (we will use a peanut free recipe) and deliver the treats and other supplies to Orphans of the Storm where the group will learn about the shelter and meet some of the animalsPlease bring: dog food, blankets and towels (can be old) to be donated to the shelter4. LiteracyWhere: Shir HadashWhen: 9:45-11:00What we can do to help: Sort books and make bookmarks to be donated to local schools/libraries in needPlease bring: new or used books (additional books will be available at Shir Hadash)5. 6. SafetyWhere: Shir Hadash and the Wheeling Fire and Police DepartmentsWhen: 9:45-11:45What we can do to help: Prepare lunch and baskets for our local police officers and firefighters. Deliver and tour the stationsPlease bring: items from shopping list to be provided to those that register7. SeniorsWhere: Shir Hadash and the Wheeling Pavilion Senior CenterWhen: 9:45-11:45What we can do to help: Grounds clean-up and planting at the local senior center8. TraditionWhere: Shir HadashWhen: 9:45-11:45What we can do to help: Led by the teens of Shir Hadash Youth and BBYO to learn about Passover traditions and bake Passover desserts to take home to your family’s Seder (limited to families at least one child in 6th – 8th grades).
