Saying Goodbye...

...to our six graduating beloved senior madrichim!

Last Sunday the entire school gathered in the electric blue, guitar-laden Youth Lounge/Sixth Grade Classroom to say thank you and shalom to six (although five were present) of our precious madrichim (student teachers).

Madrichim program is very popular with our students. It allows them to gain work experience in the comfort of their own school. There are several types of opportunities for our student teachers. The Madrichim Supervisor, Youth Director Carole Mostow and Education Director, along with the Head Madricha work to find the best possible placement for each teen.

Annie S. will attend Illinois State University

Alek K. is about to move to Waltham to study at Brandeis University (seen here with art pal, Julia)

Mira H. will move into the big city of Chicago to study photography at Columbia College

Danny M. is headed to The Ohio State University to become a Buckeye

Marc G. and Matt F. are almost off to Champaign to the University of Illinois

We will miss them dearly, expect them back for visits, and welcome them as future members (and perhaps even as teachers one day).

Don't forget, no school on Mother's Day, yes school on May 17th, no school on May 24th, yes school on May 31st.

10th Annual Mitzvah Day!

Mitzvah Day 2015

Yom Tikkun Olam
Day to Repair the World!

Sunday, April 26th marked the 10th Anniversary of Shir Hadash's Annual Yom Tikkun Olam (now called Mitzvah Day). Families gathered harmoniously to: make lunch and deliver it to the Wheeling Fire and Police Departments, created sand-filled stress balls to be used by clients at the JCFS, wrote meaningful letters to Lone Soldiers (a serviceperson without parents in Israel), made brightly-colored tags and wrote notes to attach to recorders to be sent to children lacking musical instruments in other countries, sorted hundreds of petite toiletries into vibrantly decorated brown lunch bags to be handed out to PADS clients, and baked aromatic pumpkin dog biscuits and brought supplies to animal shelter, Orphans of the Storm. Along with many toiletries, generous people donated books for Bernie's Book Bank and dozens of cans of food for The ARK. The landscaping committee led a group of enthusiastic gardeners in beautifying Shir Hadash outdoor environment. It was a day of true social action at Shir Hadash.

Special acknowledgements go to Lisa and Howard Radzely, Lynne Arons, Joanne Litman, Carole Mostow, Cindy Salomon.

In addition, thank you to the Landscape Committee (Mehran Farahmandpour, Stacy Laner, and Rachel Siegel).

Thank you to Lisa Radzely,  Molly Michaels, Felicia for sharing their photos...
