School Bulletin 12.8.15

Our Future

Rabbi Eitan visits 6th and 7th grade classes every week in order to prepare them for bar and bat mitzvah (and to impart deep wisdom and occasionally go off on tangents).
Last week he brought a torah scroll...

No, these are not mug shots...

The students are getting pumped up for their ceremonies!

Visions of the future...

Try to find Morah Forouz in the mix of her sixth grade class. Hint: she's in the middle!

Special Book Event with Lillian Zoloto

We are delighted that our beloved Administrator, Lillian Zoloto and three of her fellow authors, Aaron Elster, Ida Pulach, Marguerite Mishkin (two from Poland, two from Belgium) have agreed to join us for readings and discussions of their personal stories during the Holocaust. The authors will share stories of their childhood during the war, and there will be an opportunity to ask questions about those experiences. Out of Chaos was recently published by Northwestern University Press.

Please join us on December 15th from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. We welcome members, visitors, madrichim, parents and students of the 7th grade classes and will offer light refreshments.

Books will be available for  purchase.

Dance Update

For 1st and 2nd grades, 3rd, 4th and 7th.  This past Sunday these grades had an Israeli folk dance experience.  Everyone learned a dance called Hora Medura, which translates as the Campfire Hora.  They learned that it was choreographed in 1963 by Yoav Ashriel, one of the first children born on Kibbutz Ravat David.  Yoav would become a very well known teacher and a teacher of many teachers, who would go on to create many dances.  This dance takes place in a circle, which we learned promotes community—“when you go round and round, you can see everyone else going round and round.”  We also learned that this dance borrows a step from the well known Mayim dance—the grapevine step known as the Mayim step.  Ask your children to demonstrate what it is and see if they remember!
