Tu BiShevat Pictures and More

Sunday marked the third walking field trip our students have made to the JUF Tu BiShvat Family Celebration.  We spent the morning in study at the Hellenic Academy and then made the quick trip over to the Chicagoland Jewish High School, where the fun (and education) ensued.  This small Jewish holiday seems to have grown in popularity over the last several years, and can be compared to Earth Day. Click here to read a nice article about Tu BiShvat and food sustainability in Houston, Texas.
Take a look at the pictures below to see some of the activities enjoyed by our children.

Extra! Extra! 2nd and Third Graders to Perform on Sunday!

This Sunday, January 27th, Shir Hadash students, teachers, madrichim, and parents, will attend our annual walking field trip to the JNF's Tu Bishvat Family Celebration. Under the enthusiastic guidance of dance teacher Rebecca Rice, the second and third graders will perform a spunky Tu Bishevat dance at the gathering.

Parents are invited to join us at the Hellenic Academy at 11:15 a.m. We will walk over for the activities  and 11:55 performance. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILDREN WEAR WARM CLOTHES.

Don't forget about the Kallah (4th-12th grade retreat). The weekend  of February 15th- 17th is rapidly approaching. Please ask your children if they are interested. Kallah is a wonderful time for young people to learn about community and independence-- but mostly it's about having a great time, making new friends, and having fun in the fresh air.

Get your costumes ready. The Shir Hadash Purim Carnival will be on Sunday, February 24th! Nat Arons and the Madrichim (teen assistants) are getting creative. We are all going to have a great time.
