School Bulletin 1.19.14

Gan Yeladim Taking Pride in Their Work

A Bit of School News

This Friday the 7th grade class will lead the Shabbat service at Shir Hadash.  Rabbi Eitan requested that 7th grade students arrive a half hour early, 7:00 p.m., to go over the service.  Every student in the class has an assigned part so we hope that you all can attend.  Since the 7th graders are leading the service, they should make sure to dress accordingly (suit and tie not necessary).  Hope to see you Friday!

The 7th grade field trip to the Holocaust Museum in Skokie is confirmed for Sunday, February 9th.  The museum is opening early (10:00 a.m.) so the tour and talk will not be too out of sync with our regular school time.  You are welcome to attend as well.

Dance Happenings in the classes:  Last week in honor of Tu B'shevat, the first and second graders learned the dance Tu B'shevat Hayom.  They learned the Hebrew word for the color green (Yarok) and learned that the words and movement expressed that the sun was shining on the growing garden.  The sixth grade worked on Debka L'Adama.  Debkas were a form of dance traditionally done by men with stamping and other low to the ground, weighted movements.  L'Adama translates as "of the earth," hence it was especially appropriate for Tu B'shevat, the celebration of the birthday of the trees as well!
