Sign Up Now for Our Day to Repair the World!


Yom Tikkun Olam
Sunday April 21st
Shir Hadash Synagogue is conducting the 8th Annual Day to Repair the World (Yom Tikkun Olam).  This day is our day to give back and make a difference in the world.  Our religious school students and their families, along with members of the congregation will participate in activities of their choice.  Activities include crafts and bingo at a senior residence, clean-up at a nature center, gathering and organizing books to be donated to schools in need, and making greeting cards for Israeli soldiers

Support the Troops
Make packages and cards for our Jewish soldiers abroad. We will have some kosher food treats and paper with which to make cards.  This is a popular event and is very much appreciated by the soldiers (sometimes we hear back!).
 Be sure that food items carry kosher certification.

Learn about the Ark, Open to Shir Hadash 7th Graders and their Families 
The ARK provides free social and medical services to help distressed members of our Chicagoland Jewish family return to self-sufficiency.  This opportunity for a tour is available first to our 7th graders and their families, as a field trip for their studies of Jewish urban poverty.

Help Save the Environment
Enjoy the outdoors and perform a mitzvah at the same time.  Meet outdoorsman Tom from the Grove. He will lead the group in a project to be determined based on the needs of the Grove on that particular day.
Please dress accordingly, long pants, long sleeved shirt, and gloves.

Help Seniors
Spend time with senior citizens at the lovely Gidwitz Center in Deerfield.  Play Bingo, listen to music, or just sit and talk with the residents of this home.

Bring gently used books to the Shir Hadash office and we will donate them to Bookworm Angels.
Bring in your family’s gently worn clothes and they will be organized and donated to a community closet in Waukegan. At S.H. office from 10 -12.
